Three Cardinals Receive MVP Votes

Paul Goldschmidt, Tyler O'Neill, and Adam Wainwright are the three Cardinals to receive MVP votes for the 2021 season.

Goldschmidt finished sixth. O'Neill is right behind him, placing eighth, while Wainwright finished 20th.

Goldschmidt slashed .294/.365/.514 and recorded 31 home runs, 102 runs, 99 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases. This was Goldschmidt's six time hitting 30 or more home runs in a season. His twelve steals led all first basemen in Major League Baseball. The Cardinals first baseman also went on to win his fourth National League Gold Glove.

O'Neill slashed .286/.352/.560 and recorded 34 home runs, 89 runs, 80 RBIs, and 15 stolen bases. He tied Nolan Arenado for the team lead in home runs. O'Neill also finished with the seventh best slugging percentage for all players in Major League Baseball. The Cardinals left fielder won his second consecutive Gold Glove.

Wainwright pitched 206.1 innings over 32 games started in 2021. He finished with a record of 17-7 with a 3.05 ERA and pitched more than 200 innings for the first time since 2014. The curveball was once again a favorite for the lifetime Cardinal pitcher, in 2021 he threw the curveball third most of any pitchers in Major League Baseball. Wainwright also placed seventh in the National League Cy Young Award race.

Goldschmidt, O'Neill, and Wainwright are the three Cardinals that received votes for 2021 MVP. All three are returning for the 2022 season and very well could finish higher for MVP next season.
