Siani Bros Salami Co is the name of my fantasy baseball team in the Moneyball league. Named after Sammy Siani of the Pittsburgh Pirates and brother Mike Siani of the Cincinnati Reds. Both are currently in the minor leagues but have legit chances to be good players in MLB.
This is my first dynasty league ever and I wanted to go over what makes this league interesting. From the dynasty format and scoring, to the slow 67 round draft, and how this league was created.
About the league
I joined a startup league set up by a third party commissioner back on December 3 2020. This is a head to head category dynasty league named Moneyball. We chose the name Moneyball due to the uncommon categories used for scoring.
Batting: HR, RBI, R, SB, OPS, OBP, RC, TB
Pitching: ERA, WHIP, K, QS, SV, HLD, K/B, BAA
OPS, OBP, RC, TB, and QS, K/B, BAA are some unique statistics for fantasy baseball in here. To give an idea of the difference here is the more common 5X5 below.
Batting: HR, RBI, R, SB, AVG
Pitching: ERA, WHIP, K, W, SV
The difference shows. A league like this requires different strategies, including building a complete roster with 30 minor league spots as well. You have to plan on winning now while building a dynasty for the future as well.
Another interesting fact about this league is we play two teams every week. I believe this is going to create interesting scenarios and records by the end of season.
We started our 67 round draft on December 19. I started off by selecting Fernando Tatis Jr. with the third overall pick. The draft took 23 days to complete ending on January 10. Later on February 6 we started a three round draft to fill our rosters and bring them to 70. This first season we will be keeping all 70 players on our roster and draft five additional prospects each consecutive season while dropping five to keep rosters balanced at 70.
This is a new type of fantasy baseball for me. I have never played a dynasty league for any fantasy sport, I have never been in a league with two matchups per week, with such unique scoring, or played with a third party commissioner. I am excited to see how this team develops over the years and expect to win a championship in the near future.
I would like to say thank you and give a shout out to the commissioner Nathan Longfield. He is always setting up new fantasy leagues each one different than the last. You can follow him on twitter @DynastyOneStop or check out his website here.
